Jesus Felt BIG EMOTIONS and Why We Should, Too!
If you grew up in a home where BIG EMOTIONS were not tolerated, were belittled, punished, or squelched, you may have trouble FEELING YOUR FEELINGS as an adult.
You may have been taught to not be so emotional.
Or you may have been taught by the church that emotions are BAD and that “good Christians” should always be spiritual.
But if we look to the Word (which should be our manual for life) and we look to the life of Jesus (which should always be our HIGHEST EXAMPLE of how to conduct ourselves), I see Him not only expressing within Himself a FULL RANGE of His own God-given emotions, but also NEVER shaming others for the tears, insecurities, unbelief, or small amount of faith.
We do see Him shedding light on those areas, but always correcting with the purpose of bringing people UP HIGHER in their THINKING and CONDUCT because He knew it would SET THEM FREE!
I want to encourage you today that God can handle your BIG EMOTIONS, in fact, He created our bodies with the release of endorphins and cortisol to facilitate balance and the ability to regroup after a stressful event (of which Jesus Himself is no stranger).
So, if you were not supported in learning how to regulate your emotions in a healthy way as a child, it’s time to support YOURSELF by feeding on the Word of truth concerning this aspect of life and faith and to REACH OUT for COACHING that is Biblically-based to relearn some things your parents may not have had the capacity to help you with.
Because I believe our FAITH and MENTAL HEALTH should work TOGETHER and God never meant for us to live in a cycle of FEAR, SHAME, or GUILT because that is the enemy’s territory.
When we become so emotionally resilient and know that we can FEEL ANY EMOTION and be okay, that my friend is TRUE FREEDOM!
