Did you know this about marriage?

Like most things in life, our ideas of certain things can be much different than how they truly are once we’re in the thick of it, right?

We think _________________ is going to be _______________!

You can fill in the blank, I’m sure.

Whether it’s the occupation you completed/endured many years of education to step into, moving to that beautiful location, applying for that new job, or investing in that new relationship.

I’ve heard it said that many believe marriage is a beautiful box filled with all the things they’ve longed for…companionship, romance, intimacy, friendship, etc… that they will be able to draw out everything they’d hoped to find in there. But really, marriage starts as an EMPTY BOX that must be filled before you can take anything out of it.

I’d have to agree that being so young (although age really has not much to do with it) when I married, I had all of these preconceived ideas of what I WAS GOING TO GET OUT OF MARRIAGE.

But marriage itself cannot fulfill your needs. There is no LOVE in marriage; LOVE is in people, and people must put it in marriage.

There is no romance in marriage. Two people must work to pour the romance into their marriage.

If you want encouragement, support, acts of service, friendship, and FUN and ADVENTURES, you must each make deposits of these things over and over again.

I think the frustration comes when we are trying to draw something out that WE OURSELVES have NOT YET deposited!

Because there will be YOU, YOUR SPOUSE, and YOUR MARRIAGE.

It’s never YOU and YOUR SPOUSE against EACH OTHER, but you are each working to CREATE the BEST ENVIRONMENT for YOUR MARRIAGE to FLOURISH!

Because that is the box you LIVE FROM! That’s really the dream! Because YOU GET TO FILL IT UP AS MUCH AS YOU WANT.

There will be days and seasons where one or both of you are living off of yesterday’s reserves, but trust me, it’s always enough to get you through.

Because LOVE is not always GRANDIOSE, it’s the small, everyday choices and remembering to be CHOOSE thankfulness for that amazing person who said, “I Do” to YOU! What a gift! ~Be Blessed, Jenny xoxo
