Did You Know It’s Okay to Enjoy a Simple Life?

Did you know that it’s okay to enjoy a simple life?

I know it sounds so contrary to this rush, work, hustle culture that we are immersed in, but does any of this resonate with you?

I know in my experience, even as a former pastor’s wife and church being a huge part of our life (because in reality we ARE the church) I always recognized that raising my children was my PRIMARY MINISTRY.

Especially when my children were very young, my contribution to the church was to create a firm foundation at home so that my husband could do all he was called to do, at work and church, feeling fully supported.

While the children and I always attended church and I was an example of leadership, there were definitely seasons of establishing rhythms at home that best served us based on our known capacity.

Knowing myself well took some time and courage to not give in to pressure TO DO or BE more than I knew was right for me.

In fact, being a mother was for me the most glorious revelation.

Have you ever just wanted to be good at something?

I think we all feel that way growing up and comparing ourselves to others who seem to excel at music or sports or artistic endeavors.

And while I enjoyed some of the many activities I tried while I was growing up, I never felt I was very good at any of them.

When I brought my first baby home and settled into caring for him and my husband and our home in a full-time capacity I HAD FINALLY FOUND MY SWEET SPOT!

I finally felt like I had truly COME HOME.

Home to the truest version of myself and I realized that I THRIVE when I am in my peaceful, cozy home, caring for the needs of those I love the most.

I will be forever grateful for the amazing examples and encouragement from both my mother and my mother-in-love, as well as my sister and sisters-in-love, who went before me on this journey.

Having solid support is a major key.

I realized that I DO NOT ENJOY RUSHING or FEELING RUSHED.

By nature I’ve always felt slow, but now I know that it was just my true rhythm and as I’ve embraced it I’m able to stay in perfect peace.

Over the years I recognized that whenever I felt stressed out it was usually because I piled too many things on my plate. Sometimes I would have to reevaluate the season I was in and adjust accordingly.

Sometimes they were GOOD THINGS I had to remove or say no to.

I had always been “in ministry” but it was a gradual progression, as my children got older, and while I homeschooled them for their entire education (which is a full-time job) I would add to my volunteer capacity at church and teach in their classes all the way up through their high school years when I went back to youth pastoring and teaching because they were my number one mission field.

And now that my children are grown I have been able to move into a new season that I ADORE! And it’s been FREE of ANY REGRETS because I know I finished that part of my race well.

And guess what? I still LOVE SLOW LIVING.

I’ve been so blessed to CREATE for myself a schedule that has me serving my clients, my church, my traveling ministry, my family, and a local family that I support through nannying, with LOVE & JOY.

I have days where I am enjoying home and days when I feel great purpose in what I’m privileged to do outside the home.

ALL OF IT FEELS LIKE A GIFT!
