More than any toy we could give them, our children simply love to do life with us.
Whether it’s helping to mix the batter, sweep up some crumbs, or empty the dishwasher, they seem to know instinctively that they want to “help”.
Yes, it makes the simplest of tasks take so much longer.
Yes, it’s not going to be done to our standards.
But when we constantly do everything for them, we are taking away the opportunity for them to feel accomplished, proud, and part of the team.
If you can, structure your day with as much margin as needed to allow your children to try to do a task themselves.
Put them to bed a little earlier so they can get up with enough time to ease into the day if they need to leave the house early.
Give plenty of time for toddlers to put on their own coats and shoes without feeling rushed.
They are trying to tell us that it’s healthy to SLOW DOWN.
What a gift!
That a simple life, days filled with the ordinary tasks of loving and caring for one another, is truly the sweet spot of life.
But in our culture, we sadly rush past it in order to do the “real work,” not realizing that LOVE is the real work.
And the most generous form of LOVE is TIME

If they are far away right now, either reach out to them with a call or text or give YOURSELF the gift of time to think lovely thoughts about them.
