The definition of lovable is “having characteristics that attract love and affection from others.”
But did you know that there’s a difference between your lovability and your love-ability?
And understanding your current levels (because they will ebb and flow) and the levels of those you are in a relationship with, can determine the level of peace you will experience in those relationships.
If we are to honestly evaluate our ability to love and determine that it is a level 5 out of 10, that means that we are able to GIVE love at a level 5, but also that we are only able to RECEIVE love at a level 5 as well.
So, even if the person you are in a relationship with, whether it’s your spouse, child, parent, in-law, co-worker, etc…is currently GIVING love to YOU from a level 8, if you are at a 3 that day, you will only be able to RECEIVE it as a 3!
Let that sink in for a bit.
Communicating where you are currently will dissipate a lot of assumptions we are making about the actions of those around us and our perception of them.
We need to STOP BLAMING OTHERS for OUR EMOTIONS!
Recognizing that WE are the only ones responsible for OUR current LOVE LEVEL will SET YOU FREE!
And honestly, we don’t want to keep farming that task out to others because they can never truly satisfy that need in us.
The LOVE of God is the container or vessel we were designed to live in.
Whenever we are struggling emotionally be assured that we have stepped away from the knowledge of God’s love for us!
When we expand our ability to LOVE OURSELVES, by feeding on the truth of who we are in Christ, we will then expand our ability to LOVE OTHERS to the same capacity!
When we struggle to love ourselves that will often show up as dysfunctional behavior, like people pleasing and manipulation.
When we are not loving ourselves well, we will work really, really hard to earn love from other people thinking that we can increase our lovability.
When we take the time to fill up our OWN LOVE TANK, we won’t need others to add to it to make us feel good! Any extra love people bestow upon us will simply be OVERFLOW and AMAZING!
But we ALL have the exact same VALUE and LEVEL of LOVE that our Father demonstrated to us with the price Jesus paid on the Cross!
It is not arrogant to love yourself. Arrogance is thinking you are better than others. It’s actually a sign of insecurity. But TRUE LOVE is a sign of SECURITY in God’s VAST, UNENDING LOVE for YOU and OTHERS!
As you ponder these thoughts, I pray it gives you a shift in your heart and releases you and your people to GIVE and RECEIVE so much LOVE! ~Be Blessed, Jenny xoxo
