Parents, Stop Making it All About YOU

God’s value as a parent doesn’t ebb and flow based on our decisions and outcomes, and neither does ours.

Let’s be honest, we haven’t always done everything right.

We’ve made mistakes, too!

When we were young AND last week.

We’ve made many parenting mistakes, too!

We’ve been learning as we go.

We want God and our kids to give us grace when we’re stressed, or not thinking clearly, or tired, or scared, right?

We must GIVE the same grace we want to RECEIVE from those we love.

Sometimes we don’t want our kids to make any mistakes because we think that somehow proves to the world what great parents we are.

But that is prideful of us and hurtful for our kids.

Sometimes we need to allow our children to struggle, to wrestle.

Just like WE did when we were trying to grow into adulthood and make our way in this world.

Mistakes give us perspective.

They teach us what doesn’t work and what we don’t want for our lives.

Don’t take that away from them by trying to fix it all for them.

Growing up is stressful sometimes.

Especially for those of us in midlife. Am I right? 😉

When we allow fear to take control, we then get weird and step into ‘control mode’ by telling them everything they SHOULD do.

That’s not a lane we were anointed to swim in, that’s why it’s so uncomfortable.

My coach would say, “Stop SHOULD-ING on everyone!”

Remind yourself daily that just because you’ve lived a bit longer, it doesn’t mean that you are not equal to your adult child.

You are both on a journey with God, trying to renew your minds and become the highest, most loving versions of yourselves.

Now that your child is grown, you no longer have to correct or discipline them. Hooray! 🙂

You’ve spent years raising them and countless hours praying for them and helping them to grow.

You are now able to see them as another adult who you are blessed to have in your life, to enjoy their company, to pray for, to love and support each other while you each contribute your incredible gifts to the world around you!

If you want help in creating more LOVE and CONNECTION with your adult child, please reach out! I’d love to be your coach and teach you how you can enjoy mothering your adult children more than you ever thought you could! ~Be Blessed, Jenny xoxo
