“All my kids want to do is PLAY!”
Well, yeah, that is their internal drive because PLAY is the REAL WORK of CHILDHOOD.
And we want to foster as many opportunities for creative play in hopes that they never lose that desire to explore the wonder of the world around them.
Did you know that scientists have discovered that it takes about 400 repetitions to create a new synapse in the brain, unless it is done through PLAY in which case it can take as little as 10 or 20 repetitions?
It’s been proven that play leads to brain plasticity and adaptivity. That creative play actual SPARKS MORE CREATIVITY. They are learning in real time.
As adults, we could benefit from this truth as nothing fires up the brain more than play.
The greatest impact of motherhood is on the MOTHER not the CHILD.
Motherhood is not trying to mold our children as much as it is learning how to regulate OUR OWN BIG EMOTIONS so they have an example of resilience in front of them to follow.
Children have an energy and effervescence within them and it would serve us to drop everything and roll with it multiple times per day.
They’re not purposely acting “naughty”, little bodies are sending them signals of “I have to run and move and let the JOY OUT of me.”
If you’re a stay at home or homeschool mama, you know full well the times when fighting against the nature of these enchanting little creatures only causes misery for everyone.
For the mama who is desperate to keep order and productivity of “lesson time” there is an opportunity when we let loose we are teaching a much more valuable lesson: that we do have valuable work to contribute to the world, but it’s important to take breaks often, to get outdoors, breathe fresh air for a few moments and then get back to the task at hand.
And there’s nothing children love more than seeing their mother crawl around on the floor or dancing and playing WITH THEM not just observing them.
Often our lack of energy or tiredness comes from NOT MOVING our own bodies enough!
These are the habits they will hopefully remember into adulthood; to incorporate rest, play, to recognize the familiar feeling they experienced in childhood for the thing that lights their heart on fire and SPARKS JOY in them.
Our children deserve mamas who are so well regulated or who are willing to do the work of growth and learning how to become so. If your children are already grown when you’re learning some of these things(just like mine) there is no shame in that. You can start right where you are and the ripple effects can change your relationship with your grown children and grandchildren. Legacy is not something we leave behind. It’s who we are BECOMING each and every day. Reach out and let’s chat about how I help Mamas just like you to enjoy motherhood more and more! ~Be Blessed, Jenny xoxo
