Boundaries is a popular “buzzword” right now. But what does it really mean?
One of the most important things I’ve learned about boundaries from my coach is that true boundaries come from a place of LOVE.
They are not set in place in order to try to CONTROL ANYONE ELSE.
They are NOT telling other people HOW TO BEHAVE.
Boundaries are all about YOU.
We don’t set them because we are angry.
When we get better at being responsible for OUR OWN EMOTIONAL LIFE we will need very few boundaries at all.
When WE learn to be honest with others, gain self-awareness and respect for ourselves, stop people-pleasing, and love others UNCONDITIONALLY for EXACTLY WHO THEY ARE, we will be FREE.
Setting a boundary from a place of love will feel PEACEFUL.
So, ask yourself, “How does this make me FEEL?” “Am I doing this from a place of FEAR or LOVE for myself and others?”
We should like our boundaries and the reason we set them. And it doesn’t have to be set in stone.
As we change and grow, so might our need for certain boundaries.
When we choose to people-please, we often choose to lie about our true feelings in order to control others.
What? How could this be? Because sometimes we are trying to control how others will feel about us. We can slip into people-pleasing our spouse, our children, our parents, our boss, or our friends because we don’t want to “ruffle their feathers”, or we want to be seen as “easygoing” so we say yes so they won’t be mad at us. But when we are not being true to ourselves, resentment and bitterness can result.
The temptation to people-please comes when we side with FEAR and not LOVE. Fear will always come from a lack or scarcity mindset.
Because truthfully, nobody can take advantage of us ever. We always have a choice.
The Bible calls FEAR a SPIRIT! It comes disguised as WORRY, STRESS, and ANXIETY but we must call it out for what it is! It is the FEAR of man and his opinion of us (our OWN opinion included!). We must abhor all forms of fear because it is against God’s law of LOVE! And we want to walk in ALL the ABUNDANCE Jesus made ours, right?
