But we know that moving our body is so good for us, not just physically, but emotionally, and mentally as well. There were many years when I was healing from the effects of Lyme disease and I couldn’t move my body the way I wanted to. I was riddled with inflammation and paralysis. Many a day I was forced to stay in bed while trying to homeschool my kids and care for my family.
Once I was healed and functioning well again, you know I still didn’t necessarily enjoy working out
But a couple years ago, one of my 90-day goals for the summer months was to just MOVE MY BODY FOR 20 MINUTES A DAY! Just 20 MINUTES! Most days it is more, but always at least 20 minutes. We can endure anything for 20 minutes, right? And now I am so thankful that I CAN move my body for 20 minutes a day! It IS a blessing!
After the first 90 days of committing to move my body, I just simply NEVER STOPPED. It became a part of how I do life and one of my favorite ways to take care of this earth suit I’ve been entrusted with! So, what changed? My mindset
Because it IS and will ALWAYS be our THOUGHTS that create our FEELINGS and it’s those FEELINGS that drive our ACTIONS!
I learned that it takes 21 days for our brain to form a new habit idea and 90 days to make it a permanent lifestyle change! And I don’t put unnecessary pressure on HOW I will MOVE MY BODY. This has helped me not to slide off the cliff of shame when it’s not an intense workout, or if I have a day when I just didn’t get it done. Tomorrow is another day to try again! Phew! So, some days it looks like anything from simple stretching, pilates, weight-training, squats, lunges, push-ups, or hula-hooping, to simply taking a nightly stroll with my Love. Do something fun!
