On the 10th Day of Christmas!

Notice that I said “overeat” because there’s nothing wrong with having a treat now and then. After all, that’s the definition of a treat. It’s not an everyday staple.

We don’t overeat and binge on sugar or snacks because we have a sugar or salt addiction, we often do it because we haven’t learned to PROCESS and FEEL our EMOTIONS!

Ask me how I know? 😉

For the majority of my life, I was addicted to sweets and candy and whenever I was stressed I convinced myself that I “deserved” a little treat.

No wonder we refer to it as “COMFORT FOOD.”

I’m sure you know what I’m talking about.

Something that happens in our brains when we indulge.

Dopamine is released and it does feel good, UNTIL IT DOESN’T. 😦

When our clothes don’t fit, we feel sad we aren’t keeping our promises to ourselves, or our blood work shows results we’d rather not see.

One way to take care of yourself at Christmastime, when there are so many tempting treats staring you in the face, is to stop and ask yourself is this what I really want.

Dopamine is also released when we eat an apple and our body can handle the influx of sugar, but it wasn’t designed to eat an entire plate of brownies or cookies.

A few sentences that have helped me so much on my health journey are “I love taking better care of my body. I know it’s ok to have a treat but I also know it can be a self-healing machine when I give it the proper fuel. I’d rather have the lasting pleasure of feeling good, than the fleeting pleasure of sugar.”

If you’re feeling stressed and need a pick-me-up sometimes take a few minutes to MOVE YOUR BODY; go for a walk, do some stretches or push ups, and ask yourself if you’re feeling something that can instead be released in a healthy way. Our emotions are felt physically and must be processed physically.

Hope this helps! Comment below on YOUR favorite holiday treat …mine is Our Great Grandma Mary’s pumpkin chocolate chip cake or my sis-in-love’s gingerbread frosted cookies and a cup of something warm. ❤ ~Be Blessed, Coach Jenny xoxo
