Are They A Narcissist? Let’s Break it Down

In this day where catchphrases are constantly thrown around, we must be careful not to mislabel others.

In fact, it’s not our place to label people at all.

We will be held accountable for the words we speak over people. (Matt.12:36) If we have spoken wrongly over someone we must ask for forgiveness.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) is a medically diagnosed disorder of an individual who is suffering from a psychological impairment that causes traits such as grandiose arrogance, complete lack of empathy, and reliance on constant praise to reinforce their self-esteem, which could be caused by genetic, biological, or situational abuse or trauma.

When we say that someone is “toxic” that may not actually be true.

But, we can examine if WE are having TOXIC THOUGHTS about others.

Because a true narcissistic person is actually quite rare.

There are less toxic people than we’d like to think.

We sometimes just indulge in TOXIC THOUGHTS about SOMEONE’S BEHAVIOR.

***We must remember that while we may judge someone’s BEHAVIOR, in order to decide if we want them to have close proximity to OUR LIVES, we are never called to JUDGE OTHERS.

Jesus said, “Judge not, lest YOU be judged.” Matt. 7:1

So, what can you do?

You can continue to love them with the love of God, which is UNCONDITIONAL, meaning it is not earned by “good behavior”.

God doesn’t withhold LOVE based on OUR behavior and neither should we.

***To love doesn’t mean you must be close to them.

And also, lift them up in prayer.

If they are displaying these types of unbecoming characteristics, chances are they have others in their lives who may be frustrated by their behavior also.

They may have no one else in their life who will stand in the gap and declare the Word of truth over them.

They are most likely hurting and have never learned the skills of emotional maturity needed for close relationships.

They are either in darkness, not knowing Christ yet and thus living in torment and fear.

Or they do have a relationship with Jesus but they have momentarily slipped back into operating by their “old man” or “false self” and we can have compassion for that because we’ve all been there before.

We get to decide how we want to THINK about someone, right?

We can drop the TOXIC THOUGHTS we may be indulging in, and ask what God says about them.

The more we renew OUR minds with how much HE LOVES THEM, we will begin to create FEELINGS OF LOVE for them, too!
