Have you ever thought that when we are tempted to speak about others in a negative way we are not only stepping out of love but we are siding with the enemy? The enemy will ALWAYS whisper things to you about others because the Bible says he is the accuser of the brethren and usually they are true offenses they have committed. He uses the truth to cause division. But you know what? Whether the accusations are true or not it’s none of his business and it’s not his place! Proverbs 17:9 “He who covers a transgression seeks LOVE, but he who repeats a matter separates intimate friends”.
When we speak against others, those close to our lives or those we may only watch from afar, we are giving the devil the opportunity to work in our lives. We should be ever mindful and careful not to speak against anyone, but especially those who are called and chosen of God. You know who is also on that list? YOU! We often take the high road concerning others but tear ourselves down with our own words. The temptation to speak against yourself is also one that must be resisted. The enemy loves nothing more than to get you to turn inward on yourself with condemnation.
So, whenever you are tempted to utter something about someone, stop and pray for them instead. It will keep your heart’s motivation in check and also allow God to get some movement in their situation. When we pray, the Bible says it makes tremendous power available, dynamic in its working!
