The word Christ is the Greek word for the Messiah, meaning anointed. Paul is inspired by the Holy Spirit to use the phrase IN CHRIST, WITH CHRIST or THROUGH CHRIST more than forty times throughout his letters to the church. 2 Cor. 2:14 “But thanks be to God, Who always leads us in His triumph IN CHRIST..” Col. 1:27b “Christ IN YOU, the hope of glory.” Phil. 4:19 “My God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory IN CHRIST Jesus.” Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are IN CHRIST Jesus.” Phil. 4:13 “I can do all things THROUGH CHRIST which strengthens me.” Obviously, the Holy Spirit needs us to get a revelation of the anointing which now resides in us because we are IN CHRIST, the Anointed One Himself! If the Word says we can do all things through Christ, it’s because the anointing of the Holy Spirit is now in us through Christ being IN US. We can do it when we are relying on His anointing. Many say “I am anointed to do such and such”. And I believe and understand that but it’s not necessarily that we have an anointing to do what we are called to do, but rather we must yield to HIS anointing which is now in us. That’s when His glory is shown through us!
