We read all the baby books, we survived sleepless nights, cutting teeth, diaper blow-outs, and tantrums.
Before we blinked our toddlers were big kids, with big teeth, and lanky limbs, learning to read and ride bikes.
We survived puberty and teenage trials and learning so many new skills: like driving, applying for jobs and colleges, and navigating friendships.
But we often find ourselves not knowing exactly what to do now that our children are grown adults.
These are new waters we are swimming in and the SHIFT from the OLD season to the NEW can feel awkward and uncomfortable.
The truth is we will get to spend TWICE AS MUCH time with our children as ADULTS than we did as CHILDREN.
We only get to parent (verb) our children for the first two decades of their lives, but then we get to parent (noun) for the next four decades.
The tough truth is that as adults our kids no longer NEED us, but how wonderful when they WANT us.
They may ask for advice and we may give it, but what they choose to do is up to them.
We get to DELIGHT over them, CHEER them on, and NEVER STOP PRAYING for them!
They will make mistakes, JUST LIKE WE DID.
And they will be OKAY, Mama!
We must have FAITH IN THEM, and in the ONE WHO LIVES IN THEM!
