What if instead of the thought, “My children are so hyper” you had the thought, “My children are so VIBRANT!”
“They are so FULL of ENERGY and LIFE!”
Did you know that your EMOTIONS are CREATED by your THOUGHTS?
Yes, every single one of them.
So, if you want to FEEL DIFFERENTLY about your children, you are going to have start THINKING DIFFERENT THOUGHTS that will in turn GENERATE A DIFFERENT EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCE of your life.
In truth, children’s bodies are DESIGNED FOR MOVEMENT!
Ours are, too!
None of us were meant to live sedentary lives.
We are designed to build, lift, create, and utilize our muscles.
Even wearing shoes all day long has impaired many of the muscles within our feet from experiencing a full range of motion.
We were meant to touch the earth, spread our toes, breathe fresh air, soak in the suns rays, and be WILD AND FREE!
But as parents we often get so annoyed when are kids are trying to act, well, WILD AND FREE.
I often feel sad when I hear parents say they hate school break because they don’t know what to do with their kids all day.
They are bored.
But boredom is not a BAD THING, it’s just a FOREIGN THING to us.
We’ve replaced boredom, or what I like to call the impetus to CREATE, with screens, and endless out-of-the-home activities that exhaust parents who have worked all day and are now stuck in a car, eating fast food, waiting on their kids to finish a game, or lesson.
If this is a new concept, it will take some re-wiring of your brain, and theirs, to simply allow them to BE.
Summer should be like a Sabbath rest from the tests and strict book learning, and a wonderful opportunity to allow their TRUE NATURE, explorative minds and bodies to THRIVE.
Children instinctively know that the energy in their bodies NEEDS TO BE RELEASED.
It comes natural to them to jump around, climb on things, and test the limits of their physical prowess.
You don’t need to spend tons of money placating them with memberships and activities either.
Invest in art supplies, go hiking and exploring, cook and bake together, read aloud great books on a blanket with a picnic, collect nature treasures, keep a nature journal, and inspect birds and bugs up close.
Unlock the child that is still within YOU, allow them days of SLOW LIVING, for they only get ONE CHANCE at being a child and you have a limited chance to KNOW THEM AS CHILDREN. But you will have many decades to know them as adults.
