Another Man’s Shoes

Another Man's Shoes

My heart is heavy and it made me think of this quote today. This is something Atticus tries to teach Scout at the beginning of the book. The idea of putting oneself in another man’s shoes. It seems utterly impossible at times. But we still need to try. Just to stop, breathe, and consider another’s needs, thoughts, feelings, insecurities, pain, purpose, and destiny. We all can do better. Emphasis on doing. James 1:19,22 “This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger…But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.” So, let’s be doers. Let’s listen. And learn. And love. Let’s converse with hopes of gaining understanding and not to just be heard. Let’s talk in our homes, and in our families, and with our children, and our neighbors, and our co-workers, and our friends, and our enemies, and with those who are different than us. Let us listen to others and allow them to be heard and seen and then listen to the still small voice on the inside before we speak. Let’s strive to bring comfort and tell others we are sorry for their pain. We need to love and love well. Because “perfect love casts out fear.” (1 John 4:18) Let our only fight be the fight of faith and believe God to unify because He’s the only One who can and it can only be done by faith. Let’s revive hope. Breathe life into others. Let’s cry out to God to forgive the sins of our past and believe for healing for our land. ~Be Blessed, Jenny
