Flu Season? Is it Fake News?

I remember learning the different seasons of the year in kindergarten, summer, fall, winter, and spring. Growing up in New England we definitely experienced all four changing seasons although winter seemed to last 5-6 months and not the allotted three.

I only began to hear of “new” seasons once I got older. Seasons called “allergy season” and “flu season”. For many years, I swallowed it whole, like a giant pill that choked on the way down. But the more I grew in the Word and began to see what belonged to me as a believer, I began to see that I could and should reject those so-called “seasons”. That they were not the truth for me. They were in fact “fake news”.

The Bible teaches that when Jesus went to the cross, He not only took our sins upon Himself but that He took stripes upon His back to free us from the burden of sickness (1 Peter 2:24, Isaiah 53:4-6). All sickness is listed in the Curse of the Law in Deut. 28 and Galatian 3:13 says “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law being made a curse for us, For it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.”

If Jesus took our sicknesses, then these “seasons of sickness” can and should be resisted by every believer. In Acts 10:38, the disciples spoke of sickness as “Satanic oppression”. God does not give people sickness, nor does He have any to give. It still exists because it is a part of this fallen world, where Satan is still master until his lease is up. Adam freely gave his authority over to him. But Jesus bought back our authority for us. When He left the earth He gave us, the church, the authority to walk free, here and now from oppression. If only we would acknowledge the power that’s available to us and activate it with our words.

One of the biggest mistakes we can make in allowing sickness to dwell in our bodies and homes is to verbally ascent to. Unknowingly we say things like, “Well, it’s flu season and my family always gets it the worst.” Or “I get a bad case of “xyz” every winter and it takes me months to recover, just you wait and see.” It’s not surprising then that those things happen for those people. When our words line up with the “fake news” of the world and not with God’s Word, which promises His children to be kept by His power and free of disease, God’s power does not have the liberty to move on our behalf.

Proverbs 18:20,21 says that we will be satisfied with the fruit of our mouths; that death and life are in the power of our tongues. In Deut. 30:19, God implores us that death and life are set before us and to choose LIFE that we may live! It may take quite a while to retrain your brain to think in line with God’s Word and your tongue to get used to speaking in line with the Word and not everything that comes down the pike. You didn’t develop the habit of speaking negative things overnight and will not automatically start speaking the truth right away. But keep feeding on the truth of the Word, putting it in your ears and before your eyes every day and start speaking it out your mouth. Eventually, when you hear “xyz” is on its way, your spirit man will rise up within you and you’ll declare with confidence, Not me and my house! We are the healed of the Lord. Germs die when they enter our home! It cannot stay here. Jesus took MY sickness, His body is perfectly well and He dwells in me and I in Him. There’s no sickness in Jesus and I WILL NOT receive this, in Jesus’ name. You will stand your ground and all the power of heaven will back you up. No matter what it looks like, keep speaking God’s Word of healing and it will manifest in your life! Jesus paid a high price for it. It belongs to you!
